Fiesta 1.25 LX 16v 1997
HiJust after Christmas, got in my car and engine would not start. Car towed to garage, 3 days checking it out and no problem. In fact, it started as soon as it arrived there. Put it down to my keys being in with my mobile phone which had demagnetised the chip for the immobiliser (which is incorporated in the key) as the spare (master) key started the engine.
Called out greenflag to look at it before being towed and they jump started it and thought it was the starter motor, but it has been absolutely fine since then.
However, in the last couple of days it has happened again but I have managed to start it at the 3rd attempt. Last night drove home turned engine off, thought I would try it again to check it was OK and nothing! Battery, oil, seat belt and handbrake lights come on, fan comes on, engine is dead - no noise, no struggling to start, nothing.
Keys have been nowhere near my mobile phone. Tried again this morning and same thing.
I have a 4 year old who I had to drag on 2 buses to get to childcare then another 2 buses to work! I will then need to get the car towed to the garage again etc etc so I would really appreciate any ideas you may about what it could be.
Thanks in advance
Hi Sandra,
It sounds to me like it could be a number of things - it could be a lazy cell in the Battery - if this happens the battery can drain over night and cause these problems.
It could also be a faulty Starter Motor or the Connections from the Battery to the Starter Motor maybe loose or dirty... the Connections on the Battery Terminals could also be Dirty or corroded and finally the Earth connections from the battery to the Chassis or from the engine to the chassis could also be corroded.
Another problem common to Fiesta's is that the Catalytic Convertor can get blocked - this also prevents the engine from turning over - but from your description - I think it is the services of a "Sparky" that you need.
I hope this of some help to you... please let me know how you get on.
Regards
Bill
